Another Utah premiere, The Producers comes to
Pioneer Theatre Company as one of the first regional
theatres in the country earning the rights to produce
this comedic blockbuster. One of Mel Brooks’ greatest
successes, The Producers catapulted the stage
careers of Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick into the
stratosphere, won more Tony Awards than any
musical in
history, and managed to poke irreverent fun at just
about everyone in process. A gleefully vulgar play,
The Producers makes politically incorrect fun of
everyone from Hitler and the Nazis to love-starved
little old ladies to homosexuals and the theatre world.
Max Bialystock and Leopold Bloom have discovered a
surefire way to make a fortune on Broadway: raise
millions from little old lady investors willing to
invest in a play in return for a little affection,
produce the worst play in the long history of flops, and
then run off with the money when the play closes on
opening night. They think they've found their play in
Springtime for Hitler—but anything can happen when the
lights go down on Broadway! Contains occasional strong
language and suggestive dialogue.
