Rehearsals for i started this week—we know that not only because the actors are here but also because there is no available space left in the scene shop.
This is a common occurrence mid-season; as one show completes, the next more than makes its presence known, encroaching on every inch of available floor space, stalking its scenic predecessor. I actually love it.
Back in the rehearsal room, we are working our way through the i. For me as a director, it is a completely different experience working on an intimate play like this, with four actors and the playwright, compared to Newsies with a cast of 28. It is a much quieter room, subtlety rules the day, and there are a lot of great conversations about love and life.
Thanks for checking in—I’ll update you next week.
