This season I’m doing a weekly blog — just an update from the Artistic Director that gives you an insight into the things that don’t happen onstage, but are an integral part of getting the shows done here at PTC.
This week is a busy one.
I’m finalizing the selections for this season’s PLAY-BY-PLAY series. Standby for titles soon! I’ve also just returned from New York, where I was joined by Wes Grantom, the director for A COMEDY OF TENORS for auditions. I also met with playwright Jeff Talbott while I was there to discuss his upcoming PTC production of “i.” And with lighting designer Paul Miller, who will be here before you know it. (He’s designing A CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME.)
But speaking of CURIOUS INCIDENT, we start rehearsals this week. The out-of-towners arrived Sunday and our first day included a read-through of the play, presentations by our designers, and background information from dramaturg Andra Harbold about people on the Autism spectrum and the challenges for their families. There is so much to take in on this subject. As a parent of an autistic child said, “When you have met one person with autism…you have met one person with autism.”
We have our work cut out for us.
I’ll have more to say about it in the coming weeks.
Heading to rehearsal now. More soon.
