Celebrate Black History Month in SLC

Interested in celebrating Black History Month in SLC? Here are some ways you can invest and support the community.

  1. Reserve your tickets for Once On This Island at Pioneer Theatre Company, a rousing Calypso-flavored tale of one small girl who finds love in a world of prejudice and colorism.
  2. Attend one of several Excellence in the Community events throughout the month, celebrating artists of color in our community.
  3. Grab a seat at Poetic Justice, the free open mic event hosted by the Black Cultural Center at the University of Utah, presented by The SoulFlo. Headliner Freida will bring her talents honed at places like the House of Blues and The Echo in LA to The Post Theater on campus.
  4. Read a new book – this list is a great start: 10 must-read Black History Month book recommendations: Zora Neale Hurston, Kiley Reid and more
  5. Watch, and join in the discussion afterwards of, the movie “Miss Evers’ Boys,” which is a shocking look at horrific time in history where African Americans were denied much needed medicine under the guise of research, an incident which became known as the “Tuskegee Study.”

Here’s some rousing inspiration, celebrating The Most SearchedMoments and Individuals in America.”
