Director’s Brief: “Cagney” and Concert Productions

Happy Opening Night!

Wow. I have been delinquent in my blogging. So sorry.

Cagney opens tonight. It has been a whirlwind—rehearsing and refining this charming piece. The technical elements are incredible. Twelve actors and more than 150 costumes?! You kind of have to see it to believe it, and I hope you will.

All the while, work on the rest of the season continues. We have completed casting for The Lifespan of a Fact, and almost completed casting for our concert musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Speaking of the concert… I have been scolded of late for mis-describing our “Concert Production.” It is more than a concert, yet not a full production. But if you are imagining chairs and evening gowns, think again. The actors are up on their feet, singing and dancing just like a “regular” show; it’s just that they sometimes have their scripts in their hands. Hmm, how does that work? Well, come and join the fun and find out for yourself.

I have also begun casting for The Play That Goes Wrong and Mary Stuart. I head to New York next week for auditions and meetings with playwrights for this season’s Play-by-Play new-play reading series. Obviously, there is much more to tell, but I have to get ready for opening night!

More next week!
