Pioneer Theatre Company Announces Auditions for
the role of the DOG
in
Of Mice and Men
Auditions for the role of “Candy’s dog” in PTC’s production of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the plaza in front of the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre’s main entrance, at 300 South and 1400 East. No pre-audition sign-up is necessary; just arrive during the audition period.
Artistic Director Karen Azenberg will conduct the audition. Dogs and their handlers will be notified at that time whether or not they will be needed at callbacks. Callbacks with the director of Of Mice and Men, Mary Robinson, will be held Tuesday, September 25, time TBA.
Two dogs will be selected for the production, and both will receive a stipend throughout rehearsals and performances, although both may not perform.
Dogs should arrive to the audition on leash and should be comfortable among a large group of people and around other animals. Drinking water for the dogs will be available.
- The ideal candidate for this role is an older-looking dog, between 35-65 pounds, with a very “mixed” breed look. The character of Candy’s dog in Of Mice and Men is described as a “blind dog who is old, stinky and crippled.” The dog cast in the role need not BE blind, old, stinky or crippled, just look like she or he could be.
The rehearsal dates for the dog for Of Mice and Men are Monday, October 8, 2012 – Thursday, October 18, 2012. Performance dates are Friday, October 19, 2012 – November 3, 2012. Performances and rehearsals will be every day except Sundays. There are two performances on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Handler(s) MUST be prepared to be with their dog each day of rehearsal and performances they are scheduled.
