Joint Press Event
Pioneer Theatre Company, Wells Fargo and three local nonprofits to announce holiday gift drive in conjunction with Elf—The Musical
Salt Lake City – Pioneer Theatre Company, Wells Fargo, YWCA Utah, The Road Home and the Utah chapter of Volunteers of America will hold a joint Press Reception on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. There will be a meet-and-greet with cast and artistic staff of Elf—The Musical, and representatives of YWCA Utah and Wells Fargo will announce the launch of a holiday gift drive for Candy Cane Corner.
Elf—The Musical is the musical version of the 2003 New Line Cinema film of the same name. PTC’s production is the Utah premiere of the family-friendly musical that the New York Postcalled “a bona fide treat.” Guest artist and Tony Award nominee Dan Knechtges directs the production, which includes a 31-member cast and a 16-piece orchestra.
Because of the large number of attendees expected during the musical, PTC Artistic Director Karen Azenberg said, “This is a great opportunity to highlight the work these nonprofits have done in serving the Salt Lake community, and to help them reach their goal of serving even further at the holidays.”
Candy Cane Corner is a program that allows families served by the sponsoring nonprofit organizations to “shop” for the holidays. All items are free, and the store is stocked with community donations and staffed by volunteers. The program was originally developed by the local YWCA chapter almost two decades ago and has since grown to include The Road Home and Volunteers of America, Utah. Last year, the program served 548 Utah families and over 1,300 children.
This year, Wells Fargo will sponsor the program. Pioneer Theatre Company will be an official drop-off location along with The Road Home and YWCA Utah. Only new items are accepted. Needed and acceptable items are listed at CandyCaneCornerSLC.org.
Members of the press will have an opportunity for photos and interviews with cast and organization representatives. They are then invited to a press-only live rehearsal of a segment from the musical, which can be filmed for broadcast.
