PTC Announces Local AEA Auditions for Jersey Boys

The electrifying tale about the fateful rise of four blue-collar kids who become one of the best-selling pop groups in history: Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Spanning the second half of the 20th century, Jersey Boys takes audiences on a nostalgic journey from humble beginnings in 1950s New Jersey all the way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This widely beloved musical is filled with chart-topping hits like “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Sherry,” “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” “My Eyes Adored You,” “Stay,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “Walk Like A Man,” “Who Loves You,” “Working My Way Back to You,” “Rag Doll,” and so many more!

Rehearsals run:

Monday – Saturday: Up to eight hours daily (with a break) between the hours of 10:00AM and 8:00PM

Additional hours will be added for Technical Rehearsals beginning Sep 6.

This audition is for local AEA Actors only.  Out of town actors may submit to Murnane Casting for New York auditions scheduled May 30 – 31.

Audition Information

  • Actors Equity Association members must audition in-person, Monday, May 20 from 4:00-5:00 PM.
  • Call backs are by invitation only and will be held in-person, Tuesday, May 21. Times: TBA
  • Audition Location: Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre (300 South 1400 East, Room 245 Salt Lake City, UT 84112)

Please prepare 32 bars of a contemporary musical theatre song that shows off your vocal range and personality. An accompanist will be provided. Bring your own music as well as a headshot & resume.

Cast Breakdown for Jersey Boys

All roles listed in character breakdown below are available.

Pioneer Theatre Company is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and is seeking all races, ethnicities, body types, gender identities, actors with disabilities, and actors of all ages for roles in this production.

In reference to the character descriptions below- most characters we encounter currently are written with man/woman, he/him, or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. However, limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.

NICK MASSI: (Male Identifying, 30-40) Strong bass/baritone voice, must be very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; must be comfortable with narrative text; a quiet dreamer who longs for life after The Four Seasons; understated with a dead-pan quality. Principal. Vocal Range: E2 to E4.

TOMMY DEVITO: (Male Identifying, 30-40) Strong tenor/baritone voice, must be comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; must be comfortable with narrative text; ability to play guitar a strong plus; funny; a wise-guy; a natural-born leader with appealing bad-boy quality. Principal. Vocal Range: C3 to C5. 

BOB GAUDIO: (Male Identifying, 20-35) Strong tenor/baritone voice; must be very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; must be comfortable with narrative text; an intelligent, sensitive, and introspective musical prodigy. Principal. Vocal Range: Bb2 to Db5.

FRANKIE VALLI: (Male Identifying, 20-35) Must be 5’9 or shorter; must have a strong tenor with sweet and strong falsetto and be able to sing in the style of Frankie Valli; strong tenor to high A or Bb plus strong falsetto up to treble G; charismatic and charming; must be a very strong actor and have a gritty side as well as a polished veneer; must be very comfortable with four-part harmonies must be comfortable with narrative text. Principal.

BOB CREWE: (Male Identifying, 30-40) Intelligent and flamboyant; genius music producer and lyricist; an integral part of creating the magic of The Four Seasons. Ensemble/Supporting (also plays DETECTIVE TWO/ACCOUNTANT/DONNIE). Vocal Range: Bb2 to Db5.

GYP DECARLO: (Male Identifying, 45-55) Tough, Mafioso type; must be a strong character actor and strong singer. Ensemble/Supporting (also plays JUDGE/BOWLING ALLEY OWNER/AL FINNEY/PRIEST).  Vocal Range: C3 to G#4.

ENSEMBLE: Actively seeking female and male identifying performers to play a variety of roles; must be extremely strong singers who are comfortable singing harmonies and who can move well.
