Cast Breakdown for Souvenir
All roles listed in character breakdown below are available.
Pioneer Theatre Company is seeking all races, ethnicities, body types, gender identities, actors with disabilities, and actors of all ages for roles in this production.
In reference to the character descriptions below- most characters we encounter currently are written with man/woman, he/him, or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. However, limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS: 50s. Female-identifying. A wealthy socialite who believes she is a great soprano. She isn’t. Far from it actually. Her belief in her talent and her love for music are oddly infectious and beguiling. She absolutely believes herself to be a major vocal artist. Soprano with Bb3-E6 range.
COSME MCMOON: 40s-early 50s. Male-identifying. The accompanist of Florence and an aspiring composer. He has an excellent command of the piano and a high musical standard. He is constantly trying to protect Florence even though he has no illusions about her musical abilities. Vocal range of C3-E4. Should be a proficient pianist and be able to play and sing simultaneously. Experience in classical vocal repertoire and jazz standards is a plus, no improvisation is required.
