Director’s Brief: A Busy Week

by Karen Azenberg

Hi, everyone!

So sorry I missed last week. You’d think that since my mainstage directing duties are done for the season, I’d have time to remember things like my blog—but, alas, no.

Last week was tech, and opening night, for Twelfth Night. On top of that, we had a flurry of last-minute casting activity. A couple of replacements for Mamma Mia! and the Play-By-Play reading that starts in 10 days. Before I knew it, it was Friday night.

This week I’m in New York. It’s time for our seasonal EPAs, which is a general audition we do for members of Actors’ Equity Association. Each auditioner has three minutes and can perform a monologue or a song or a short version of both. I see about 200 people in an eight-hour day!

We also had a very successful presentation of Jeff Talbott’s i for some producers in New York. My hope is that Jeff’s play gets a second (and third and fourth) production sometime soon. I saw three shows: Frozen, Escape to Margaritaville and Three Tall Women. I met with a couple of directors and visited with some PTC alumni.

All in all, a busy week.
