Happy Holidays!
The holiday season officially begins here the week after Thanksgiving, when our third show of the season opens. Traditionally, it’s a holiday-themed or family-friendly, upbeat title we hope appeals to everyone. This year, we visit Jane Austen’s England for a fun and heartwarming imagined sequel to Pride and Prejudice. It’s called Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon.
Also, during the holiday show, we always begin an annual holiday drive to benefit another organization. This year we’re doing something a little different. Recently, we began some wonderful programming with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake. We’ve been doing workshops at the clubs, bringing kids here to see shows, and giving them backstage/behind-the-scenes tours with a chance to meet the actors. The children participating in the program represent six clubs, each with over 1,000 children from hardworking families from all over the Salt Lake valley. So, adding to our work with them, we’re doing a “New Coats, Hats, Gloves, Mittens, Socks” drive for the Boys and Girls Clubs.
If (or should I say when?) you come to see Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, please—if you’re able—bring a new coat, hat, pair of gloves, mittens, or socks for our kids.
Next week, after our opening night, I head to New York for some design meetings for Grease. Yes, that show is way off in May and seems so far away but it’ll be here before I can say Beauty School Dropout!
